Q1: What is HSK & how does it work?
The HSK, as its name implies, is a collection of tests designed to assess the Mandarin Chinese language proficiency of individuals who are not native speakers. The HSK comprises six distinct tests, each corresponding to a different level. Depending on the level at which an individual successfully completes the test, the HSK certification acknowledges their proficiency, ranging from HSK1 to HSK6.
Q2: What are the levels of HSK?
The HSK is comprised of six levels, which are known as HSK (level 1), HSK (level 2), HSK (level 3), HSK (level 4), HSK (level 5), and HSK (level 6). These levels align with the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages (CLPS) and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF) as follows:
Q3: When did HSK come out?
The original HSK 1.0 version had been utilized from 1990 to 2009, featuring 11 ranks and 3 test formats. However, due to criticism regarding its impracticality and excessive reliance on obscure historical and cultural references, the current HSK 2.0 version was introduced in 2010. This new version underwent a significant reform in the ranking system, reducing the number of levels from the original 11 to 6.
