This course provides an overview of the components of the digital thread and how they are used to create a digital-based manufacturing and design process. Participants will learn how the digital thread is the backbone of the digital manufacturing and design (DM&D) transformation, turning manufacturing processes from paper-based to digital-based. They will gain a working understanding of the digital thread – the stream that starts at product concept and continues to accumulate information and data throughout the product’s life cycle – and identify opportunities to leverage it. By the end of the course, participants will be able to recognize the components of the digital thread and how they are used to create a digital-based manufacturing and design process.

[Applications]
After completing this course, participants will be able to apply the knowledge they have gained to their own organizations. They will be able to identify opportunities to leverage the digital thread to improve their manufacturing and design processes. They will also be able to identify areas where the digital thread can be used to increase efficiency and reduce costs. Additionally, they will be able to develop strategies to ensure that the digital thread is properly implemented and maintained.

[Career Paths]
1. Digital Manufacturing Engineer: Digital Manufacturing Engineers are responsible for developing and implementing digital manufacturing processes and systems. They must have a strong understanding of the digital thread and be able to identify opportunities to leverage it.
