Course Overview

Skills and Knowledge Acquired:
This course will provide students with the skills and knowledge to compose their own songs. Students will learn how to generate melodies in their mind as chords are played, as well as how to join musical phrases into sentences and sections to form songs. They will also gain an understanding of the main elements of modern music, such as Introduction, Verse, Pre-Chorus, Chorus and Bridge. Through the use of real world examples of contemporary hit songs and classic rock songs, students will gain an understanding of the application of basic songwriting techniques and song elements. By the end of the course, students will have written their first song and will be able to compose as many songs as they wish in any style or genre.

This course contributes to professional growth by providing an interactive learning experience that teaches the fundamentals of songwriting. Through the use of real-world examples of contemporary hit songs, classic rock songs, and chord progressions, participants will gain an understanding of the main elements of modern music and how to compose their own songs in any style or genre.
