Network Security is a course offered as part of the RITx Cybersecurity MicroMasters Program. In this course, students will explore the various areas of network security, including intrusion detection, evidence collection, and defense against cyber attacks. The principles and concepts of wired and wireless data network security will be discussed, and students will be guided through a series of laboratories and experiments to explore various mechanisms for securing data networks. Students will analyze attack/defend scenarios and determine the effectiveness of particular defense deployments against attacks.
[Applications]
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to apply the principles and concepts of network security to their own networks. They will be able to identify and implement appropriate security measures to protect their networks from cyber attacks. Additionally, they will be able to analyze attack/defend scenarios and determine the effectiveness of particular defense deployments against attacks.
[Career Path]
A career path in network security involves designing, implementing, and managing secure networks. Network security professionals are responsible for ensuring the security of a company’s network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices. They must also be able to identify and respond to security threats, as well as develop and implement security policies and procedures. Network security professionals must have a strong understanding of network protocols, encryption, authentication, and other security technologies.
The development trend of network security is towards more sophisticated and complex security solutions. As the number of cyber threats continues to increase, organizations are investing in more advanced security solutions to protect their networks. This includes the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to detect and respond to threats in real-time. Additionally, organizations are investing in cloud-based security solutions to protect their data and systems from external threats. As the demand for network security professionals continues to grow, the need for professionals with the skills and knowledge to design, implement, and manage secure networks will also increase.
[Education Path]
The recommended educational path for learners is to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Network Security. This degree program will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of network security. Students will learn about the different types of security threats, the methods used to protect networks, and the tools and techniques used to detect and respond to security incidents. The program will also cover topics such as cryptography, authentication, and access control. Additionally, students will gain hands-on experience with network security tools and technologies. The development trend of this degree program is to focus on the latest technologies and techniques used to protect networks and data. This includes cloud security, mobile security, and artificial intelligence-based security solutions.
