This course, Psychology and Mental Health: Beyond Nature and Nurture, provides an exploration of how social factors can affect mental health. Students will examine how life events affect their mental health and well-being, compare and contrast various contemporary approaches to health and well-being, and participate in cutting-edge research on mental health and well-being. Additionally, students will examine various mental health explanatory models and synthesize various mental health conceptual and explanatory models.

After completing this course, participants will be able to apply the knowledge they have gained to their own lives and the lives of those around them. They will be able to identify and address mental health issues in their own lives and in the lives of others. They will be able to recognize the importance of social factors in mental health and well-being, and be able to use various contemporary approaches to health and well-being. They will also be able to use the various mental health explanatory models to better understand mental health issues and develop strategies to address them. Finally, they will be able to synthesize various mental health conceptual and explanatory models to better understand and address mental health issues.
